As I entered high school my freshmen year, I felt fully prepared. During
the summer I spent the majority of my time at the school due to football, so my
transition was easy. My freshmen year was a breeze academically. I finished with
straight A’s in all possible honors classes. I was also elected class president.
Athletically, the year was a struggle.
I played varsity and junior varsity football my freshmen year. Both teams
struggled, and I ended up getting hurt towards the end. Then basketball came
around, and we lost our best player to the junior varsity team. Our season did
not go so well and many people put some blame on our coach, who was much too old
to be coaching. Junior varsity baseball was fun; however we were not very good.
When tournaments rolled around, the varsity team pulled me up. I did not play
much, but I did get in a couple times.
Sophomore year was nearly the same academically; however I received a ‘B’
in one of my honors classes. It dropped me to second in the class, which is
where I currently reside. I was again elected class president this year. This
year I became a starter on the varsity team, but due to a low number of players,
I was needed on the junior varsity team as well. In the homecoming game, I broke
my collar bone on a fake punt, but I did get the first down. This made me late
to basketball season; however I became a starter on the junior varsity team.
Like last year, we did not do well, but it was much better than the year before.
Baseball season rolled around, and I made the varsity team. In the preseason, I
was doing excellent in both batting and fielding, however when the season
started, something happened and I couldn’t hit anymore. We ended up winning
league, but losing in the first round of tournaments.
While I am not completely finished with my junior year, it looks as if it
will be similar to my sophomore year. I received a ‘B’ in one of my honors
classes, and straight A’s other than that. I was elected student body vice
president, meaning I will take over president next year. My summer into my
junior year involved much more dedication to the football program. I went to
nearly all of the football conditioning sessions, and “got big”. The coach
became very fond of me, and it looked as if I was going to be a big part of the
team this year. I finished the season with eight touchdowns (6 rushing, 1
passing, and 1 interception return) and three interceptions. I was hurt again in
the homecoming game. I wasn’t able to finish the second half. The following week
the athletic trainer told me I just had a stinger, and that I would be fine. For
the rest of the season, I put a knee pad under my shoulder pads to cover my
shoulder. We finished the season slightly better than the previous years, but it
could still improve. I was awarded first-team all-league, and offensive back
M.V.P. on the team. I started out as a starter on the varsity basketball team,
and remained there until I started taking an ACT class that conflicted with our
practice schedule. My shoulder
never completely healed, so I went to the doctor, and after a series of x-rays
and an MRI, I found that I fractured my shoulder, tore my rotator cuff, tendon,
and bicep. The doctor said I had three options, and I chose surgery. I am
currently in a sling, and will miss baseball season.
After high school, I want to go away for college, and possibly play
college football. If I could live anywhere and any way I wanted, it would be in
a big house on the Tennessee River. If I could be anything I wanted, I would be
a radiologist (which is what I plan on going to college for). If I could do
anything I wanted, whenever I wanted, I would drive wherever I wanted when I
wanted, to do what sounded fun. In five years, I see myself in my senior year of
college, hopefully playing football. In twenty years, I see myself working
somewhere in Tennessee as a radiologist with a family and kids. In thirty-five
years, I see myself in the same situation. In fifty years I see myself playing
golf everyday with my other senior citizen friends.
